Daddy’s Monster House was created by Cotton Game, a studio that specializes in creating unique puzzle games. While the art style seems spooky and suspenseful, the story is truly sentimental with an even more heartwarming ending. We are so excited to share that Daddy’s Monster House will be part of this year [email protected] Demo Event Winter Game! With Dad’s Monster House, we wanted to give those heartbreaking memories a chance at redemption. We wanted to dedicate this game to scientists, to my childhood dreams, to those I love and to faded memories.

When I was a child, my mother told me a story about a man-made creature. I later realized that this story is from a novel named Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley. It was a cool story, so when I was eight years old, my dream was to be a scientist.

There is a saying that when you are a child you get your own dream; but when you grow up, everyone’s dream becomes exactly the same: to get rich!

I was never able to become a scientist. Instead, I became a game developer. Deep down, I still regret not living out my childhood dreams. That’s why I wanted to develop this game – I wanted to tell a story about a scientist. The story had to be dark, creepy and emotional. The graphics also had to be dark, unique and instantly memorable. And the ending had to be sad and touching.

I started with a sketch of Frankenstein, the man-made monster. This set the art style for the rest of the game’s black and white sketches. All my friends told me not to make a game that looked like this. They said, “Your style is all about color, what advantage do you have in making black and white games?” They also said, “Solving puzzles, black and white and narrative? – you will probably make less money by combining all three categories together.” They all seemed to have a point.

I replied, “I know it sounds hard, but I want to take on this challenge – just to make my own dreams come true.” But then they said, ‘Don’t be so naive. Making a game is about understanding the market and respecting it, don’t live in your own stubbornness and naivety. You should seriously study the market before setting up this new project.”

I thought to myself, even though you all say not to be reckless with ideas, I’m going to make this game the way I want it.

The game was hard enough to make. After five years of wandering, Daddy’s Monster House finally goes live. As the name suggests, there are many monsters in the game. They are not demons in the traditional sense; they are just creepy creatures that are not from our world. They have minds, hearts and souls just like us. In a way, they represent the minds of the scientists in the game. They also represent the real personalities of some of us game developers…

While playing the game, walking back and forth in the room with the dull sound of footsteps, surrounded by mystery and darkness, I felt those little monsters sitting quietly in a corner, looking very lonely. At that moment I also felt lonely.

There is another saying: “If you are different, you are definitely lonely.” We’ve finished the game. And we ourselves enjoyed it immensely. And that was enough.

No matter what people said, I would tell them, “In this mediocre world, for once, I just want to live for my stubbornness and childishness.”

We hope you enjoy this game as much as we do, and remind you of your memories, dreams and family.

Freud once said: “Love and work, work and love… that’s all there is to it.” But what about the pain, the struggle that comes when we are forced to choose between our ambitions and love? By dealing with such conundrums, we have probably all hurt those dear to us. Because often we feel safest in the dark. With Dad’s Monster House, I want to give those kind of heartbreaking memories a chance at redemption. I dedicate it to scientists, to my childhood dreams; to those I love, and to faded memories. I hope you will find the best answers within yourself whether it be your love, science or dreams.
[Gameplay]A sudden phone call in the middle of the night sends you back to a house you haven’t been to in many years. You must unravel one puzzle after another: to find clues from scenes intertwined with memories and unravel your father’s secret. The choice to cash in on this sad story or eventually end it is in your hands.
[Features]Instead of going for bright and vibrant colors, I opted for a black and white art style. The fragmented narration, copious puzzles and delicate sound designs create an immersive experience where you as the player can really feel the ups and downs of the protagonist’s emotions. Keep unraveling the story as you collect more items…
