Golden State Warriors are ‘very fragile’ as they stumble into the Christmas Game, according to Draymond Green… with defending champions only 15-18 and with the WORST away record in the NBA

After a road trip that saw the team go 1-5 and suffer big losses to the Knicks and Nets, the Warriors are “very vulnerable,” according to forward Draymond Green.

Golden State won the Larry O’Brien Trophy vs. the Celtics, but their title defense so far didn’t go to plan with a 15-18 start.

And with the team playing poorly and star man Stephen Curry out with a shoulder injury, Green has admitted that morale is low in the group.

“At the moment I think we are very vulnerable,” he said after training on Friday.

“You start going through these things and then you start believing them. Once you start believing them, it becomes who you are. The only way to break through them is to be mentally strong.’

‘You can make whatever you want [the recent results] being on the road versus being at home, but it’s mental. It is a team that is struggling mentally. And that makes it hard to conquer anything else.”

Although Curry hasn’t played the last four games and said this week that he’s “a long way from picking up a basketball,” the Warriors had problems early in the season, even when they were healthier.

The defending champions only started the season 3–7 after a five-game losing streak, and they currently have the league’s worst away record at 3–16.

Besides Curry, it didn’t help that Andrew Wiggins missed the past nine games with an adductor injury, while Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green were also injured.

“It’s not something that can be solved with the snap of a finger,” Green said. “You have to solve these problems to get that confidence.

“It just doesn’t show up. As much as you like to think, “Oh, it’ll be okay and this guy will be back.” …’ No no no. You have to work [for] positive outcomes, positive feelings, which ultimately give you that confidence boost.’

While the team still boasts a formidable offense with Curry (when healthy), Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole and Wiggins, Golden State’s defense was not at the level of a title contender.

The Warriors are only 24th (out of 30) in defensive rating in 33 games, with a tough test against the Grizzlies coming up at Christmas.

The Grizzlies are 19-11 and second in the Western Conference at time of publication.
