Executives at the NBA’s annual G League Winter Showcase believe that Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is the next player with a rookie max overtime to request a trade if the team doesn’t make a playoff run, according to Bleacher Report.

The Hawks suffered chemistry issues last season en route to winning just one game during the postseason before being eliminated by the Miami Heat

The team has shown similar issues this year and is currently ninth in the East at 16-16 despite the addition of star guard Dejounte Murray, a player Young encouraged the team to trade for.

The Hawks recently caused a stir in the front office by reassigning former team president Travis Schlenk – who drafted Young – to an advisor role within the organization.

Reassigning Schlenk also positioned new general manager Landry Fields as the team’s primary decision maker for basketball operations.

Fields was hired as the Hawks GM in June of this year and has not been shy about showing a willingness to shake up the roster as power forward John Collins has floated in trade talks for an extended period of time.

The extremely competitive Young has continued to prove himself to be one of the league’s top scoring guards with 27.6 averages and 9.8 assists.

While trading a player as young and talented as he is would be a major factor in any team’s selection, the winnings they get in return and having Murray to point the point would put the team in the future a much more rounded position. .

It would also make for one of the biggest upsets in the NFL in recent memory and the trade watch is sure to make for an exciting summer if Atlanta continues to be mediocre at the end of the season.

Murray has displayed the same two-way prowess that endeared him to the San Antonio Spurs before being shipped off to the Hawks last season.
