A new update for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, Tribute Games’ homage to the Konami TMNT games of old, adds even more arcade flavor, thanks to new custom rules for the game’s Arcade mode. The developer has added virtual DIP switches Shredder’s Revengemaking you experience the money-guzzling joy of an arcade operator trying to squeeze more quarters out of kids by making the game so hard.

(If you don’t know what a DIP switch is, it’s actually a series of hardware or software modifications that arcade cabinet owners can adjust to make games easier by giving players extra health, for example, or harder by making in-game projectiles faster. or enemies stronger.)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge also has a ton of new visual filters, adding CRT-style scan lines and a slightly curved screen option, as well as the ability to make the whole game look like playing a crappy VHS tape. That option adds visual noise, color distortion, and even a trailing line effect to the game (see above). It’s very well done.

Arcade mode’s new custom game options are equally rich, allowing players to recreate Konami’s brand of Ninja Turtles beat-’em-ups with a free play option, tougher Foot Clan ninja enemies (which can now explode when they die!), and old-school supers that drain health when used.

Tribute Games update for Shredder’s Revenge also brings some welcome improvements. Players are now invulnerable during throws. Players hosting online games can now set a maximum number of players for the lobby. And taunts now only fill the first Ninja Power bar.

Gameplay

Gameplay

  • Fixed rare crash in Arcade mode when changing difficulty.
  • Cars can no longer deal massive damage if the player is considered armored (example: charge a Heavy Swing).
  • Fixed bosses who were sometimes unable to reach a player at the very top or bottom of the stage.
  • Fixed bosses that sometimes got stuck after being hit by Raphael’s Super Flying Attack.
  • Fixed score not kept for player when switching characters after a continue.
  • April’s super-flying attack has been fixed, which would sometimes revive enemies that appeared to be incapacitated.
  • Fixed an issue where a KO player near the transition point (e.g.: escalators in the Crystal Palace Mall) would come to life, sometimes hindering progress.
  • Fixed an issue with updating the timer for special statuses (example: Infinite Ninja Power) when KO or in a cutscene.

Online

  • Guest players can now rejoin the same hosted game.

Input

  • Fixed input not judged correctly when selecting between Backflip or Roundoff when flipping.

Menus

  • Fixed a rare soft lock that occurred on the world map if the user completed stage 8 after completing stage 10.

IMPROVEMENTS

Gameplay

  • Taunt now only fills the first Ninja Power bar.
  • We no longer clear completely collected Ninja Power bars when KO on Chill difficulty.
  • By now making a roll, the player becomes invulnerable.
  • Added more feedback in the HUD when attempting a Super Attack without enough Ninja Power.
  • Many small tweaks have been made to the animation for all bosses, often to make attacks more readable.
  • Fix for collision detection of Dirtbag’s dig that was too wide and too deep.
  • Reduced the number of enemies spawned in Zorax’s stampede and the frequency of stampedes. Zorax also has a little less health when facing multiple players.
  • Rat King does Pied Piper less often now.
  • The Super Shredder combat has been improved in many small ways for a smoother pace and adjusted some damage values. His grab is now used more often and is more efficient. Bummer dude!
  • The Pace of the Tyranny Statue has been improved and some damage values ​​have been adjusted.
  • Mother Mouser has a new bite animation to differentiate the attack bite from the idle bite, giving players time to react.
  • Mouser Model 3 and Mother Mouser now act a little faster.
  • Radical Mode damage multiplier is now applied to all throws, Super Dive Attack and charged Heavy Swing.
  • Fixed players sometimes falling off-screen repeatedly while respawning, in specific locations.

Online

  • Added a refresh button to the search list in the lobby.
  • We’ve improved the way the Arcade score is calculated: we now record each player individually, even if they leave the game.

Localization

  • Corrected or improved some strings in Spanish, French and German.

Menus

  • The game remembers if How To Play has been seen before separately in Story and Arcade modes as they differ.
  • Improved prompt to reset your story and character progression.
  • Pause menu in Arcade mode now shows the total playing time.

Steam

  • Steam Input: Improved support for PS5 controllers.
