Netflix has built up a substantial collection of Turkish language libraries over the past few years through licensing and original commissions. hits like The protector and The gift are among the most successful on the service, with more to come. Here’s a preview of some of the upcoming Turkish Netflix Originals.

We are going to split this article into two halves. First, we’ll cover the returning Turkish series on Netflix before delving into some of the announced new projects they have in development.

We should note that there will be many Turkish projects in development at Netflix that will not be announced in advance. This is completely normal, as Netflix’s EU team doesn’t often promote many of their upcoming Originals ahead of time.


Revamped Turkish shows returning for new seasons on Netflix

Another Self (Season 2)

After debuting in July 2022, Another Self was renewed for a second season in September 2022, though it was notably omitted from the press release.

The soap drama series, created by Nuran Evren Şit, followed three friends who went to a seaside town to hook up.


As the crow flies (Seasons 2 and 3)

This Turkish drama series, which has been renewed for two additional seasons, debuted in June 2022.

The show, which comes from the Ay Yapim production company, was about a young fan’s ambition to become a news anchor. The series was renewed in August 2022.


fatma (Season 2)

The crime drama Fatma first debuted on Netflix in April 2021 with six episodes and was renewed later in the year.

Netflix notably left out fatma season 2 in their press release for the upcoming Turkish series.


Midnight at the Pera Palace (Season 2)

Created by Emre Şahin, Midnight at the Pera Palace is the Turkish-language crime mystery series set in a historic hotel in Istanbul.

It was renewed in Summer 2022 after premiering on Netflix in March.


The club (Part 3)

Released in 2 parts so far in 10 episodes, The club is a Netflix historical drama series set in the 1950s starring Gökçe Bahadır and Barış Arduç.

The series has been renewed for at least one more part.

New Turkish shows coming to Netflix in 2023 and beyond

This new fantasy series, produced by Tims & B Productions, will be the first major Turkish series of 2023 for Netflix. It is written by Pinar Bulet and directed by Umur Turagay.

It is a passionate love story starring Serenay Sarıkaya and Burak Deniz and is about a woman who goes on a journey to confront her grandfather.

The new mystery thriller will be released worldwide on Netflix in January 2023 on January 20.


The tailor

There will be seven episodes of this new Turkish drama based on a true story.

It is based on a young tailor who inherited his business from his successful grandfather after his surprise death. His job is made even more difficult as he has to take care of his mentally ill father.


WWWRF

WWWRF Original Netflix Turkish series

Based on the novel of the same name by Perihan Mağden. WWWRF stands for Who Were We Running From. It is about the runaway story of a mother and daughter duo.

It comes from 1441 Production and stars Melisa Sözen.


The creature

This new Turkish take on the story is an adaptation of the timeless novel Frankenstein from Mary Shelley’s nearly 200-year-old novel and comes from renowned Turkish filmmaker Çağan Irmak.

Per Netflix, here’s what to expect:

“The Creature addresses one of humanity’s most fundamental questions, ‘death and beyond’. The greatest wish of Ziya, an adventurous, rebellious and excited young medical student, is to be a very good doctor and cure many epidemics that medicine cannot find a cure for. Standing between madness and genius, Doctor İhsan, who met Ziya in Istanbul, is almost the only person in the world who could understand him. These two eccentric and wounded souls will pay a high price for the secret and forbidden experiment they embarked on together.”


Finally, on November 4, 2022, Netflix announced a slew of upcoming series that will premiere in 2024.

These include:

  • Asaph – Created and directed by Özgür Önurme, Asaf tells the story of an ordinary Uber driver with strong moral values ​​who tries to find a way to get his life back on track after his divorce from his wife and son. One day, an unfortunate accident changes Asaf’s life forever when he becomes a pawn of the wrong people. Idea Film will produce Asaf.
  • The city – From the eyes of the successful director Seren Yüce, written by Deniz Karaoğlu and Doğu Yaşar Akal, Bir Filmproduction The Town revolves around two brothers who have fallen apart over the years and after the death of their mother reunite in their small residence. After discovering bags full of money in the trunk of a crashed car with their trusty childhood friend, they find themselves caught in a game of cat and mouse, wedged between a rock and a hard place. Will they give up on their dreams or take the one chance to change their lives?
  • Untitled Berkun Oya Project – Beloved creator of Ethos and Cici, Berkun Oya is working on a new project for Netflix. A mother, a father and a child… The story follows a nuclear family and their decades-long journey. As we watch the family members confront and challenge each other and the society around them, the unorthodox narrative structure will allow viewers to immerse themselves in a realm of unique reality encompassing life and before, death and after.
  • Kimler Geldi Kimler Geçti (WT) – The talented writer Ece Yörenç takes us to modern relationships through this fresh and contemporary rom-com with an Ay Yapım production. It is an ‘extreme love story’ with complicated relationships and a lot of energy. This is the story of several characters from a few weddings ago, or just after the “first love”, sometimes in the “sofa”, sometimes in the “ghost”; some on the run, others on the hunt, entangled in plagues in search of relationships.
