Given how quickly naked mods for Spider-Man Remastered followed the wall-crawler’s appearance on PC, it should come as no surprise that modders got to work removing Marvel’s Midnight Suns superhero underoos as well. While mods for the XCOM games are traditionally a pretty big deal, the nothing but mods I can find for the latest from Firaxis are the horny ones. Its ModDB entry (opens in new tab) remains empty and there is no page for it at all on NexusMods (opens in new tab) yet.
The eternally thirsty modders of the LoversLab forum (opens in new tab)however wasted no time and within a day of release had discovered naked loopholes in the game’s files, added nipples and created the first naked mod (opens in new tab) (initially for Magik, before adding Captain Marvel, Nico and the Hunter (opens in new tab)). A more tasteful half-naked mod (opens in new tab) soon followed, for those who prefer the ladies of the Midnight Suns just hanging out topless in the abbey. Mods for male midnight sun without suitcases have yet to appear despite requests (opens in new tab)but I’m sure it won’t be long.
It’s always fascinating to see how determined modders manage these feats. In the case of Midnight Suns, created in Unreal Engine 4.26, that meant first using UModel to extract the assets so they could be modified. File encryption should prevent that, but encryption keys for Unreal Engine games are readily available (opens in new tab) online.
Those assets can then be imported into other software, such as the open-source 3D graphics toolset Blender (opens in new tab) for editing, but not without problems, as one modder discovered (opens in new tab) when characters’ heads disappeared and they developed extra bone sockets. The solution was to “set the object’s scale to 0.01 and also change the name of both the object and armature to ‘armature’ so that Blender doesn’t add an extra bone to the root,” they found, which also solved the missing main issue. “Apparently the head wasn’t actually invisible; it was just so gigantic that the game put it somewhere high in the sky.”
The inventiveness of modders, whether serving the horny part of the public or not, is always impressive. In 2021, Luke Winkie set out on a journey to meet the modders determined to add nudity to the least likely games, finding that even pixel art sandbox sim Starbound and sci-fi grand strategy game Stellaris weren’t safe from their attention. For a game like Midnight Suns, where half the cast wear form-fitting fetish clothing and you can also unlock swimsuits for them – no, really, it’s a heck of a thing – it was only a matter of time.
