Alexis Mac Allister praised Lionel Messi and revealed that his Argentina team-mate surprised him more than any other player in training.

When Mac Allister was asked which players surprised him the most during Argentina’s pre-match press conference, he said: ‘It’s difficult to pick one player from our national team.

‘We know Leo and he surprises us every day. I would say it’s Leo Messi. He does incredible things, both in training and in matches. He seems happy and that is very important to us.’

He added: ‘We know that they (Netherlands) have great players and a strong idea.

“But the most important thing is to think about our game and be aware of what we can do. The group is very good, both in terms of spirit and football.’

Mac Allister also revealed that he has not felt any nerves for World Cup matches representing his country.

He said: ‘Usually I’m nervous before matches, but at this World Cup it doesn’t happen to me. I think I’m really enjoying this.’
